Relive your favorite movie moments in the heart of the Austrian Alps! Step into the shoes of Maria von Trapp and embark on a nostalgic journey through the breathtaking scenery of Salzburg and the stunning Salzkammergut Lake District. For over 60 years, “The Sound of Music” has captured the hearts of millions worldwide—now it’s your turn to see where the magic happened.
Our guide will take you to the iconic filming locations while sharing fascinating insights into the real history of the Von Trapp family, and the rich culture of Salzburg. Our journey begins at the magnificent Mirabell Palace and Gardens, where you can walk in the footsteps of Maria and the children in the very spot where “Do-Re-Mi” was filmed. We’ll also stop at Leopoldskron Palace to capture photos of the lake where the famous boating scene took place; you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the palace and its gardens from the lakeside, as this historic estate is now a private hotel.
Continuing our adventure, we visit Frohnburg Palace, whose stately facade served as the primary entrance to the Von Trapp family home—though today it houses talented music students from the renowned Mozarteum Conservatory. A true fan favorite follows as we wander through the gardens of Hellbrunn Palace to see the legendary glass gazebo, the romantic setting for “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and Maria and the Baron’s first kiss. Finally, we make our way into the breathtaking Lake District to reach the village of Mondsee. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to step inside the world-famous golden Basilica of St. Michael, where Maria and the Captain were wed in the film’s grand finale, followed by time to soak up the charm of this truly idyllic lakeside town.
