Excursion – Klosterneuburg Monastery
This excursion will take us north of Vienna to the Klosterneuburg Monastery, whose two towers are already impressive from a distance, standing beside the Danube. Emperor Charles VI commissioned the construction of a vast complex inspired by El Escorial, linking a monastery with an imperial residence. However, upon Charles’s death, construction was halted, leaving the project unfinished. We will visit Charles VI’s apartments and the relics of Saint Leopold, but the highlight will be a visit to the church, which houses one of the most important organs in Europe and the famous Verdun Altar. The altar is a masterpiece of medieval art and is made of 51 enamel panels that shine as brightly today as they once did. We will then return to Vienna, passing through Kahlenberg Hill, from which we will have a fantastic view of Vienna.
