The Palace of the Mad King – Herrenchiemsee

We will leave Salzburg on the freeway in the direction of Munich. In Prien, we will board the ship that will take us to Herrenchiemsee Palace, located on the island “Herreninsel” in the center of Lake “Chiemsee.”

This palace was commissioned to be built by Ludwig II of Bavaria, better known as the “Swan King” or “Mad King Ludwig.” A walk through the gardens and rooms will remind us of the splendour of Versailles.

After the visit, we will take the ship back to Prien, where we will have lunch. In the afternoon, we will return to Salzburg, where we will visit the well-known palace of the archbishops of Salzburg, “Hellbrunn,” with its famous water games.
