The famous Styrian wine route

During this excursion, you’ll travel along part of the Southern Styria Wine Route—Styria’s oldest and best-known wine route—and experience a selection of its most idyllic corners at an easy, scenic pace.

Your first stop is Gamlitz, a charming village near the Austrian–Slovenian border. Enjoy a relaxed walk through its flower-filled streets on the way to Schloss Gamlitz, a 17th-century square building admired for its Baroque façade and Mediterranean-style courtyard. Here, you’ll take a guided tour with explanations and finish with a wine tasting in the castle’s wine cellar.

From there, the drive continues through the rolling vineyard landscapes often nicknamed the “Tuscany of Styria”. Stop for lunch at a local inn. Afterwards we continue to Stainz, our last stop, where you’ll visit the castle and its three exhibitions before going back to Graz. The Hunting Museum explores the cultural history of hunting along with fascinating natural science themes, the Agricultural Museum traces the development of agriculture and forestry from pre-industrial times to the present, and the Archduke John Museum highlights the progressive initiatives and eventful life of Archduke John.
