“During our excursion through the area, we will visit the Southern Styria Wine Route, which is the oldest, most famous, and beautiful of all the wine routes in Styria. We will explore part of this route and visit some of its idyllic locations.
The first stop will be Gamlitz, a charming village south of the Western Styrian hills, on the border between Austria and Slovenia, where we will take a peaceful walk through the most beautiful flower-filled village in Europe to Schloss Gamlitz: this 17th-century square building impresses with its baroque façade and Mediterranean courtyard. Here, we will enjoy a guided tour with explanations and a wine tasting at the house’s wine cellar.
The journey continues through the “Tuscany of Styria” to Stainz, another historic location, where we will visit the castle with its three exhibitions. The Hunting Museum presents the multifaceted cultural history of hunting and fascinating natural sciences. The Agricultural Museum shows the development of agriculture and forestry from pre-industrial times to the present. The Archduke John Museum is dedicated to the progressive initiatives and turbulent life of Archduke John.
We conclude with the final, cozy, and fun part of the program: a ride on the famous “Flascherlzug,” a nostalgic train journey with a steam or diesel locomotive through the region where pumpkins were grown for oil and the wine “Schilcher” is produced.”
