Riegersburg + “Vulcano” region
“We begin our tour with a visit to the most famous fortress in the area: Riegersburg Castle, which stands proudly and majestically atop a 482-meter-high volcanic rock.
Throughout its centuries of existence, Riegersburg Castle has never been conquered. Few other castle complexes are as impressive as the mighty Riegersburg. Inside the castle, we will explore the state rooms and courtyards, as well as exhibitions on the castle, “Witches in the Middle Ages,” and the medieval weapons museum.
Due to its fertile soil, this region of Styria became famous for its luxurious food. We will head directly to the famous Zotter Chocolate Adventure World, where we will learn all about chocolate.
Through the glass architecture in the “from bean to bar” production area, we experience the entire manufacturing process and also have the opportunity to taste all the chocolate we want at the tasting stations.
Next, we visit the famous “Vulcano” factory, where a variety of hams are produced. The best way to understand what makes Vulcano special is to experience it yourself on a guided tour! During a short journey from the origin to the final product, you can experience all the highlights up close and, of course, taste the products.
Finally, we visit one of the leading companies in the area, Gölles, which specializes in the production of vinegars and spirits. During a factory tour, we will learn all about the origins of this family business, the use of resources, and the added value of their products.
Among other things, we will enter Austria’s largest vinegar barrel cellar and take a look at the schnapps distillery and the sensory tunnel.”
